FELLOWSHIP WITH A PURPOSE
Please consider joining this friendly group, either every time or just when your schedule permits! They meet on the first and third Fridays of each month during the school year from 8:30 am until about 10:30 am. The purpose is to help with light custodial clean-up of church in preparation for Sunday worship services. Coffee and refreshments are served! All are welcome! ASBURY’S WORSHIP IS NOW ON CD AND AUDIO!
CDs of our 8:30 Worship services are available for one week check out in the church library. The CDs are located in the adult section, next to the check-out box. Audio of each worship service is now available to stream or download to your computer from the Asbury website ( www.asbury-bett.org ).

DINING TOUR COUPON BOOKS ARE GOING FAST!
Quad City Dining Tour Coupon Books are available in the church office. A fee of $35.00 is requested with all profit ($10) going to support Our House Preschool, which is located in the inner city of Davenport. Our help allows the underprivileged children to attend Our House Preschool during the summer months. Thank you for supporting Our House Preschool!!! Church and Society Commission

PURPOSE DRIVEN STEWARDSHIP FOR PURPOSE DRIVEN MINISTRIES
Update on the 2012 Stewardship Drive. As of Jan. 19th we have received 283 commitments totaling $526,701.

TLC JANUARY MISSION: JOPLIN MISSION TRIP
The January TLC offering has been designated by our Global Ministries Committee to support the mission trip to Joplin, MO. Your donations will support the team by helping with expenses and purchasing of items to leave in Joplin. Asbury’s Mission Trip is scheduled for March 3 - 10, 2012. Thank you for helping this very worthwhile outreach ministry by placing your pocket change in the TLC jars each Sunday morning in January.

ANNUAL CHRISTIAN UNITY PRAYER SERVICE SUNDAY
Churches United will sponsor the Annual Christian Unity Prayer Service at 3:00 Sunday, January 22. The event will be at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCA), 1330 13th Street, Moline. The guest speaker is Rev. Kerrin Kirkpatrick. Please join other Christian churches in the area as we remember the 2012 theme “We Will All Be Changed by the Victory of Our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor. 15:51-58). WINNIE’S WISHES
Winnie’s Wishes Resale Shop is looking for donations of children’s clothing – toddler to pre-teen AND some furniture items (no beds or TVs). The shop is located at 902 East River Dr., Davenport and is open Tuesday – Friday 10 to 4 pm and Saturday 9 to noon.

SILENT AUCTION TO BENEFIT YOUTH MISSION TRIP

YOUTH MUSICIANS NEEDED FOR YOUTH SUNDAY
Our instrumental youth ensemble will once again be performing on February 19th at both services for Youth Sunday. Thanks to the youth that participated in December and we hope you will join us again. We would like to add string instrumentalists to the ensemble as well. Please bring your instrument, a music stand and join us from 9:30-10:00 a.m. in the Youth Room on Sunday mornings!

SWEETHEART DINNER
The youth will be hosting the Sweetheart Dinner on Sunday night, February 12th. This is the major fundraising event for our Summer Youth Mission Trip. Mark your calendar and watch for upcoming details!! All are invited!

2012 YOUTH MISSION TRIP
On July 15 – 20, 2012 the Asbury Youth will participate in a Mission trip to St. Paul, MN. Any 6th to 12th grader may join the group. Contact Pastor Emmanuel (355-5218) or Nancy French (320-0117) for details!

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS
High School Seniors, we are now accepting applications for college scholarships. Eligible applicants will receive a minimum of $100. All applications should be sent to Pastor Emmanuel by April 1, 2012. The application forms are available in the church office. The Youth Scholarship Taskforce would like to thank you in advance for your participation in ministry at Asbury as you get ready for college!

F.I.G. KICK-OFF
Do you like to eat? How about gathering with friends old and new for a casual dinner four times a year? The Asbury dinner group, F.I.G., is kicking off this year with an appetizer event at 5:30 on March 4th in Upper Fellowship Hall. Anyone interested in F.I.G. is welcome to attend this event. SNACK SALE
On Sunday, February 5th, from 9:30 – 11:00 am the 4th & 5th Grade Youth Group is having a Snack Sale in the West Narthex. Come and buy your Super Bowl snacks on February 5th. The proceeds of this sale will help purchase Bibles for the children at the Christian Friendliness Center.

STAMPIN’ UP WORKSHOP
Interested in making greeting cards or scrapbooking? Beginning at 2:00 on Sunday, February 19th there will be a Stampin’ Up workshop at Asbury in the Upper Fellowship Hall. Come and make a card to take home, view samples of finished projects, and purchase products to make your own cards and scrapbook pages. Everyone is invited, please come and bring a friend! All proceeds will go to support Asbury’s Card Ministry!

FOOD PANTRY
The Bettendorf Food Pantry is currently in need of several items. Those items are: peanut butter, jelly, cereal, sugar (in 1 lb. boxes), Spagettios, ravioli, catsup, paper products, and small size bags of flour. Thank you for helping those in need!

BACKPACKS WITH SNACKS MINISTRY
Each month Asbury is responsible for filling 22 backpacks with snacks for Thomas Jefferson Elementary School students. After filling the January backpacks, we are in need of several items for next month! These items include: crackers with cheese or peanut butter, plastic jars of peanut butter, pudding cups, 100% juice boxes or packs, fruit in pop-top cans or plastic cups. NURSERY ATTENDANT
Asbury is looking for an additional Nursery Childcare Attendant. This is a part-time position, not to exceed 8 hours per week. Interested persons need to be available Sunday mornings, as well as occasional weeknights and be at least 19 years old. We are looking for someone who can provide tender, loving quality care for infants and toddlers that reflects God’s love as shown by Jesus Christ. If you are interested in the position, please contact the church office at 355-5218 for the job description.

COLLEGE MINISTRY
As we begin to prepare for our annual College Ministry Valentine mailing, we are once again thankful to the Church and Society Commission for remembering our Asbury college students by budgeting money for the postage to send the packages! If you would also like to help with this important ministry by donating money for postage, which is always our biggest expense, you can get a free Papa Murphy’s Peel - a - Deal Card valued at $30.00 (the card NEVER expires and can be used at all the Quad City locations) for every $5.00 donation made. Cards may be purchased in the church office.
If you have a college student and have not been contacted for their address, please call the church office (355-5218) or e-mail Patty at pattys@netexpress.net with your student’s address! Also be sure to drop off a picture of your student for our College Bulletin Board that will be going up in the west narthex in early January!
Donation boxes will also be placed in the east and west narthex in early January where you can place a variety of items for our February mailing. The following donations would be greatly appreciated: microwave popcorn, hot chocolate, ramen noodles, individually wrapped valentine candy and packs of gum, post - it notes, highlighters and pens. You can find lists and tags of needed items on the boxes to with you as a reminder of items to purchase.
If you would be interested in helping to pack the boxes on Wednesday evening, February 8th at the church, please contact Deanne Graber at 563-449-8332 or dgraber29@gmail.com . This is a special ministry that has been going on for 20+ years and it takes the whole congregation to make it happen! Let’s make sure our students know we are thinking about them while they are away at college in 2012!

ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP
A new Alzheimer’s caregiver support group is to meet on Monday, January 23rd from 4:30-6:00 and will continue to meet on the 4th Monday of every month at Asbury. This support group was organized through the Alzheimer’s Assoc. and will have two support group leaders facilitate the meetings. If you would like to attend, or have any questions, contact Caron in the church office at 355-5218.

RESOURCE SUGGESTION
There are two free resources in the office that might be helpful to anyone wanting to know how to talk with children about death: A Scrapbook of Memories, a Workbook for Grieving Children by Dr. Earl A. Grollman, and Talking About Death with Children. Additional resources can be found from Pastor Kerrin or in the church library.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT MEAL
Asbury serves Wednesday Night Meals from 5:15 – 6:15 in the Upper Fellowship Hall. Card Ministry is hosting the Jan. 25th meal and the menu includes chili, chicken noodle soup, hot dogs, salad and desserts. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a time of fellowship and good food. It is not necessary to bring a dish to pass, but a free will offering to help defray the cost of the meal is appreciated.

LENTEN STUDY
Asbury’s church-wide Lenten study will be based on Adam Hamilton’s book; 24 Hours That Changed the World. Beginning the Sunday following Ash Wednesday (February 26) through Easter Sunday (April 8) the pastors will be preaching from this material. Small study groups will meet during the week at various times yet to be determined. If you think you are interested in a small group study, we are currently taking orders for the book, 24 Hours That Changed the World, at the cost of approximately $7.00. Adam Hamilton also wrote a small companion volume which offers 40 days of reflection and meditation, making it ideal to use during Lent. The cost of this 40 Days of Reflection will be approximately $8.00. Please call the church office by February 12 to place an order for one or both of the books.

HELP NEEDED
Fellowship with a Purpose will have a special meeting at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 4th to change light bulbs in the church. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jean and Russ Black and family on the death of
Jean’s father, Bob Scheuermann, on Jan. 16th.
